Traditions in Pashtun families have roots of Jewish origin. Some Pashtuns wear amulets with words "Shema Israel” written on them. They circumcise male children on the eighth day after their birth. Women observe the rituals of purification described in the Torah and light candles on Friday night. Men have side curls and wear special garments on their heads which is similar to the Jewish talit during prayer. None of the other tribes in the region wear similar head-dresses
